How to update or change your Name, Phone Number, or Address in Local Services Ads
Nothing happening with your Local Services Ads?
Updating the name on your account can sometimes help a non-performing account come alive.
Here’s WHY and EVERYTHING YOU NEED to do it…
Why…
1) Your Local Services Ads account Name MUST exactly match your Google Business Profile. If you have changed the name on your Google Business Profile at some point, but have not updated it in your Local Services Ads, then the two might be out of sync. And Google won’t alert you to update it and it will appear that the ad is running fine. But from experience, matching the name back up many times helps the ads account get going again.
2) Just the act of being in your account, Google knowing your info is correct, current, and was just confirmed can help with your trust signals with Google and spark something to happen.
NOTES:
– If your Local Services Ads name is different from your Google Business Profile name, BUT the ad is running fine, you don’t need to rock the boat, just leave it if it’s performing.
– If you’re creating a brand new account, the name MUST match from the beginning.
What you’ll need…
NOTES:
1) For Real Estate Agents, you want to call rather than use the form they try to get you to use. On the phone, you can get an answer and make it happen immediately while you are on the phone (though might take a couple days to take effect).
And when changing the name in the form, they will force you to upload a DBA or biz registration document, which most Real Estate Agents don’t have.
On the phone, you can explain to them that you are a real estate agent and we don’t have those, that’s not a thing; and you are simply you (Derek Bicksler), and you are a Real Estate Agent (Derek Bicksler, Real Estate Agent), and your license has to be at a company/brokerage (Derek Bicksler, Real Estate Agent – Coldwell Banker Realty); so this is the way it has to be named and is fully compliant and just the way it is, registration docs or DBA’s do not apply to Real Estate Agents. (I know sometimes it does, but in this case, and for most, we say it does not)
2) You can’t use vertical line separators, the Local Services Ads system will not accept it. So your Google Business Profile and Local Services Ads name needs to be “Derek Bicksler, Real Estate Agent – Coldwell Banker Realty” NOT “Derek Bicksler, Real Estate Agent | Coldwell Banker Realty” (even though it’s prettier).
And make sure there are spaces around any dashes… Like this “Derek Bicksler, Real Estate Agent – Coldwell Banker Realty” NOT like this “Derek Bicksler, Real Estate Agent-Coldwell Banker Realty”
3) Local Services Ads name MUST be exactly the same as your Google Business Profile.
4) Best Practice for naming your Google Business Profile (which Local Services Ads has to match) is…
Your Name, Real Estate Agent – Brokerage Name (I personally prefer this option over “REALTOR®”)
or
Your Name, REALTOR® – Brokerage Name
or if on a team…
Your Name, Real Estate Agent – Team Name – Brokerage Name (I personally prefer this option over “REALTOR®”)
or
Your Name, REALTOR® – Team Name – Brokerage Name
5) Local Services Ads Address also has to match your Google Business Profile.
6) Local Services Ads Phone Number does NOT have to match your Google Business Profile. You could use a different tracking number or something if you wanted to.
What you need for calling Local Services Ads support to change your name and address…
State that “I need to update my name and address on Local Services Ads to match my Google Business Profile.”
